About Santa Barbara:
Located in the southern California area, Santa Barbara is about 80 miles North of Los Angeles. Visitors can fly direct into Santa Barbara Airport, or alternatively fly into Los Angeles and take the shuttle from LAX airport.
Santa Barbara, with its population of about 95,000, is famous for being a wonderfully safe, beautiful and friendly city. With its Mediterranean climate, beautiful beaches, majestic mountains and cosmopolitan culture, Santa Barbara is often known as the "American Riviera". University Immersion Program (UIP)
The University Immersion Program (UIP) is an academic study program that provides international students with the opportunity to enroll in UCSB academic and/or professional development courses in many different disciplines. Applicants' academic credentials are carefully screened prior to acceptance to insure English skills are sufficient to compete with native speakers. Credits can be transferred to universities around the world or used to complement students' professional goals. UIP students select one plan from the following two options: Academic Studies or Professional Studies.
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
UCSB Extension's TESOL program offers its trainees a strong background in communicative language teaching methodology and also a wide range of practical teaching skills. The curriculum reflects careful study and consideration of current theory and its practical application in the language classroom. The approach to UCSB Extension's TESOL teacher training program is energetic, highly practical, and extremely enjoyable. Upon completion of the program, trainees will be prepared to teach in both the US and overseas.
The 10-unit, 90-hour TESOL Methodology Professional Sequence Award offers six methodology courses.
The 16-unit, 144-hour, TESOL Professional Certificate Program offers the same six methodology courses and, additionally, two teaching practicum courses.
