English programs at UC Irvine

10 week Intensive ESL

Students at all levels may participate in these courses, which focus on fluency and cultural understanding. Basic and intermediate students take courses in core grammar, listening and speaking, reading comprehension, writing and composition, and vocabulary skills. More advanced students choose form various elective including conversational fluency, pre-academic skills in research, critical thinking, advanced writing and preparation for TOEFL or TOEIC tests. Classes are held Monday through Friday at various times between 8am and 5pm, with a minimum of 21 hours of class time per week.

4 week Conversation and Culture

Students focus on conversational fluency and accuracy, and using natural speech and idioms in the context of American culture and customs. ESL courses in language and culture are held in the morning Monday through Friday, for a total of 72 instruction hours. In addition, you may choose one or tow afternoon elective for a total of 90 hours of instruction. Students will also earn a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the program.

4 week Business English

This course focuses on reading, writing and discussion of international business practices in areas such as marketing, finance, management, decision making and e-commerce. Students will examine American business vocabulary and concepts, as well as cultural factors, which can affect international business transactions. Students will also acquire computer skills needed for success in business through extensive hands-on training. A certificate of completion will be given upon successfully completing the program.

Accelerated Certificate Program (ACP)

ACP allows active professionals to complete the required courses for a certificate in a minimal amount of time.

ACP Business Administration

This program embodies the best practices and standards of businesses today. Its goal is to provide competence in the areas of finance, management, marketing and the law.

ACP Global Operation Management

Students will explore career opportunities in international business management, develop specific skills in are of international marketing, management, finance and business negotiations, identify the strategies, policies and norms necessary to conduct international business, examine the knowledge bas needed in international management; marketing; finance; cross-cultural communications and leadership styles, and describe specific business strategies for conducting business in designated international markets.

ACP Communications and Networking Engineering

Students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in all aspect of communications systems engineering, system development, and life cycle support, learn how to form an organization’s communications systems development process and project teams, apply academic and practical knowledge of communications and networking fundamentals and prepare to develop modern-day communications systems.

ACP Marketing

Students will explore new career opportunities or develop specific skills in marketing, interact with local and international marketing professionals, enhance our knowledge and skills in the various components of marketing, consumer research, presentation skills, creativity and strategic planning and gain practical theoretical knowledge from instructor who are working professional and leader in their field.

ACP Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Students will prepare or enhance their career as an English Teacher, develop the skills needed to succeed in further post-graduate studies in TEFL and related fields, learn the latest methodologies form distinguished teacher-trainers, attend local conferences to explore the most recent trends and developments, visit American schools to observe teaching styles, preactive theory teaching skills in a classroom setting, and participate in educational and social activities with local teacher and students.
